I thought I had another Victorian beach-house tearoom mystery left in the series, but it turns out the next one isn’t available until November. I was not mentally prepared for that. Luckily, it turns out I’d downloaded one of the author’s other books last year, so I’ve decided to give it a try. This is another cozy mystery series, this time featuring a jam maker based at the local farmers market, who solves crimes with her twin brother. No ghosts that I’m aware of, but the author includes recipes, which is something that was sadly missing from the tearoom books.

What are you reading these days?

Apparently Victorian-beach-house tearoom paranormal mysteries are my jam, because I’m starting the third book in this series. In my last Currently Reading post, I mentioned I really liked these covers. Well, I have another confession to make: the silly titles make me giggle. Yes, I have a thing for wordplay, which (thankfully?) tends to come out only in conversation and not in my writing.

I ended up enjoying the last book I read enough that I felt compelled to go on to the next one in the series. I think that what I like best about these books is the beach setting with the Victorian house that just fell into the protagonist’s lap, along with a teahouse and a resident ghost. Pure wishful thinking for me, and I’m enjoying the fantasy of my own Victorian tearoom beach house as much as the story itself. Anyone who wants to bequeath a house like this to me, I promise I’ll take good care of it, ghosts and all…

(Oh, and I know you’re not supposed to judge them this way, but I also really like the covers on these books.)

So, it turns out that my last “Currently Reading” choice wasn’t for me. Alas. But I’ve already moved on. Since I was all geared up for a mystery, I went with another one. Instead of witches and vampires, this book features a ghost and a Victorian house/tea room by the sea (my dream home, and where I’m living in an alternate universe). I’ve already started it and it’s looking promising…

Do you give up on books you’re not enjoying, or do you read to the bitter end?

Cheers,
