Today is National Drop Everything and Read Day, which really should be an international holiday, as far as I’m concerned. DEAR day happens every 12 April, in honour of author Beverly Cleary’s birthday, but can be celebrated all month and beyond. The goal is for people to take time out of their day and spend it reading a book. Seems like a great holiday to celebrate (I suggest your favourite warm drink as the official accompaniment).

Currently Reading, blog post by Aspasia S. Bissas, aspasiasbissas.com. The Arab Table by May S. Bsisu, food, cooking, cookbooks.

I’m happy to report that I loved the last book I read, which means Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is back on the TBR pile (fingers crossed I won’t regret that decision). For now, though, I’m switching things up and going with a cookbook. I’m not sure whether I’ve mentioned it before, but I collect cookbooks and enjoy reading them (I’ve even been known to try out a recipe on occasion). I’m very excited to get into The Arab Table, as it goes beyond recipes to also share cultural traditions and the author’s own experiences. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favourite cookbooks.

Currently Reading, blog post by Aspasia S. Bissas. aspasiasbissas.com. Lords and Ladies by Terry Pratchett, Discworld, fairies, witches

A new month brings a new read! The last time I posted on the subject, I was starting on two books– one each in English and French. I ended up walking away from the French one after about 100 pages, not because it wasn’t helpful for improving my language skills, but… let’s just say it turns out I can resist some paranormal fiction, after all. On the other hand, I’m very happy to have re-read The Night Circus, which is easily on my short list of all-time best books.

Now I find myself heading back to Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. I still don’t expect to ever finish the entire series, but Lords and Ladies caught my eye, since it features a favourite character (Granny Weatherwax) and fairies. If I don’t end up enjoying this one, I probably won’t go back to Discworld again. Not for a few months, anyway 😉
