In the Buffy episode Surprise. there’s a short scene of vampire Drusilla dancing to a song. That song is “Transylvanian Concubine” by Rasputina. I loved the song as soon as I heard it, and it was perfect in the scene.
Buffy actually features a lot of good music, and even had a few bands play onscreen (Bif Naked, Cibo Matto, The Breeders, Aimee Mann…) But “Transylvanian Concubine” stood out the most to me. Give it a listen and see what you think:

What did you think of the song? What’s your favourite song featured on a show or movie, vampire or otherwise? Share in the comments…

Is it the “Once More with Feeling” album from the musical episode, or a general soundtrack for the show? Either way 💯

General soundtrack, I used to listen to it regularly. I loved Bif Naked’s ‘Lucky’ and the cover of ‘Wild Horses’, but Gargage’s ‘Temptation awaits’ and Rasputina held the gothic feel of the show for the first three seasons. That’s my view anyway. Was a bit gutted Oz’s band wasn’t on there though.

I’m surprised they snubbed Dingoes (shame). I’ve downloaded a few of the songs from the show and they take me right back to whatever scene they’re from 🙂

A shame that, especially when one of the bands on the album (Hepburn) were pretty much a one hit wonder. Ah well, at least we have the episodes we can listen to Dingoes.

True. I never looked into it, but they probably were a real band (other than Seth Green) under a different name.

The early 90s were (mostly) a good time for music 🙂
