Well, I finally finished Practical Magic, and while I can’t say I hated it, I do have to admit that it’s one of two books where I liked the movie better (the other one being The Princess Bride). I don’t think I’ll be rushing to read the sequel (but I’m very much on board for a movie sequel with the original cast!)
For my next read, I’ve actually chosen two books. First a re-read:
I loved this book, so I’m excited to revisit it!
The other one is a bit of a departure. Since I’m trying to improve my French skills, I keep hearing that a great way to learn another language is to read books in that language. I do have a few French books in my collection, but they’re all currently packed, so I checked to see if any e-books were available free (from reputable sources). There were a few promising options, so I picked the one that looked the most fun (and manageable for my reading level):
I can’t resist a good paranormal read 🙂 And it’s the first in a series, so I could have a lot of solid French practice ahead of me.

I’m currently reading ‘The Animal Dialogues’ by Craig Childs. It’s a collection of essays about Childs’ encounters with various creatures as well as insight into their natures. From admiring a Blue Heron when he was a kid to a harrowing encounter with a mountain lion where the wrong move could mean death. My favourite so far is the Parliament of Ravens as he follows one raven into a cave and finds dozens of them watching a stone housing what looks like a feather….. after being driven away by them flapping and dive bombing and even stoning him (yes, really!), he returns later with two friends, one of them goes in and finds the ravens have killed an owl- a predator of their kind and they all agreed that if they were to humanise the situation, they had walked into a raven party celebrating the kill of one of their enemies.

Thanks 😀 I don’t usually read two works of fiction simultaneously, but I’m going to try alternating them and see how it goes. Ideally I’d like to start regularly reading books in languages other than English 🙂

I know some people who read that way but I have only been able to do it if one book was a dense read and the other a bit of light relief. 😉 Throw in a different language and you will either have a lot of fun or a headache 😉
