It’s the most wonderful time of the year– and to give it some of the appreciation it deserves, I snagged this tag from A Geek Girl’s Guide. Feel free to post it yourself (please share your link) or leave your answers in the comments 🎃
What’s your favourite thing about October?
Wow, I have to pick only one thing? In that case, what I like best about October is that everything about it feels like home to me. It speaks to my spooky, pumpkin-loving, pagan soul.
Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?
I used to be. I’d decorate the house, carve a jack o’ lantern, and do all kinds of Halloween-themed cooking and baking. I’d have people over and shell out (give out candy). The last few years…not so much. I’m hoping to get back to proper celebrations in future.
What’s your favourite horror movie?
Nothing will ever scare me more than the original Alien movie. As far as I’m concerned it’s the perfect horror film.
Would you rather a cosy night in watching horror movies or a big night out in a costume?
I would never willingly choose a big night out. A cozy night in with The Nightmare Before Christmas and a few other spooky/scary movies is perfect.
Which has been your most favourite costume to date?
Confession time: I haven’t liked wearing a costume since I was a kid (I won’t bore you with reasons). But when I was a kid, I went as a fortune teller a couple of times and remember having fun with it. (I should also add that costumes back then were always ruined because it was so cold where I lived. We couldn’t go out without extra layers under the costumes, as well as gloves, hats, scarves, a winter coat, and– worst of all — snow pants on top.)

Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?
How about some divination instead?
How do you celebrate Halloween?
I haven’t lately, but I used to go all out with the decorating and cooking and handing out candy, among other things.

What’s your least favourite horror?
Anything where regular humans are the monsters. There’s enough of that in real life.
Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?
When it got dark and dinner was over and my parents would f i n a l l y let me go out.
What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?
The feeling in the air.

Scary costume or Silly costume?
Scary. Always.
What’s your favourite Halloween candy?
Chocolate, although I’m the weirdo who also likes candy corn and those molasses candies that exist only at Halloween.
Who is your favourite black cat, real or fictional?
I love all black kitties because they are awesome, but I especially love my black kitty, who chose our home to be his home ♥

I love the fall colors the best and what better way to have more color than decorations! I decorated inside and outside. Living in the country we don’t get trick or treaters so we don’t pass out candy.

If you’re lucky enough to live in the right area, the colours are amazing ♥ I think trick or treating has really dropped off in the last few years (or maybe they just don’t notice our house). I hope it makes a comeback (although maybe not this year).

It IS the most wonderful time of the year!
In celebration of which, I will participate in this meme!
What’s your favorite thing about October?
The aesthetic: dark, magical, mysterious.
Are you a big celebrator of Halloween?
Most years, yes. This year, not so much, because it feels like we’re living in a horror movie – and I’m not a big fan of horror movies.
What’s your favorite horror movie?
As I said above, I don’t really like horror movies because I don’t appreciate cheap shocks and too many rely on misogyny and lots of blood. .I like David Carpenter’s The Thing” but Since it’s Hallotober, I will say Stan Winston’s “Pumpkinhead.”
Would you rather a cosy night in watching horror movies or a big night out in a costume?
A cosy night in watching Halloween movies (“Nightmare Before Christmas”, the first “Ghostbusters”, Universal Monster movies, Coppola’s “Dracula”, the Addams Family films) .
Which has been your most favourite costume to date?
I was allowed to pick out a costume pattern when I was 14 or 15 and I chose a witch with a slightly floppy hat. I was pretty much full grown at that point, and I wore it over many times over the years until I lost it during one move.
Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?
How about pumpkin carving?
How do you celebrate Halloween?
Usually decorate inside, carve a pumpkin with my partner while enjoying pumpkin ale, and watch Halloween movies. We also read aloud (or listen to the audiobook) of Roger Zelazny’s “A Night in the Lonesome October”, a chapter each night of the month, the final chapter of which takes place on Halloween night.
What’s your least favourite horror?
Slasher films.
Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?
We used to enjoy giving candy to trick-or-treaters, but the numbers of kids taking part in our part of the neighborhood dwindled as they got older. So one year we went out for a Halloween walk to the other end of the subdivision, which was a much more happening area, and enjoyed seeing the decorated houses and the costumes of the trick-or-treaters.
What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?
The ambiance.
Scary costume or Silly costume?
I prefer the classics: witches, mummies, werewolves, wizards, vampires, ghosts.
What’s your favourite Halloween candy?
Chocolate, in all permutations!
Who is your favourite black cat, real or fictional?
The panthers in “Cat People”.

It’s the haze in the sun light, the moon and the earliest stars of the evening. When you can feel the magic in the air, the build up of excitement. And the turning leaves of course!

It’s very hard to choose one thing that I love about the Hallowe’en season, but among the wonderful things are: pumpkin carving, ghosts, cosy nights in, autumn colours, thick jumpers and black cats!
